APRIL BIRTH CIRCLE- GUEST SPEAKER Kären van der Veer, NMD!

Date:  April 20th, 2009

Time:  7:00 pm

Place:  Flagstaff Healing Arts

119 S. Paseo Del Flag

Flagstaff, AZ 86001

Dr. Kären van der Veer brings over ten years of clinical experience to the joy of helping women and their families have healthier babies. It is her greatest privilege to serve those seeking the best alternative and complementary, drug-free medical care to benefit themselves and their babies.

With a life-long interest in the field of medicine, Dr. van der Veer originally pursued conventional medical training at the University of Arizona despite her reservations about having a dominantly pharmaceutical-based practice. At the end of her pre-medical education she was introduced to Naturopathic Medicine and was enamored with its holistic, patient-centered approach to health. She found that the principles of Naturopathic Medicine seemed amazingly simple, balanced and profound and were more in alignment with her own philosophies and intention.

Since graduating from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1998, Dr. van der Veer has dedicated herself to treating a wide spectrum of illness and chronic disease, and to helping women and families have healthier pregnancies and healthier babies. She has played an essential role in establishing Naturopathic Medical programs at two separate Phoenix based non-profit organizations and has trained medical students from all over the U.S. in the field of Naturopathic Medicine.

In addition to private practice Dr. van der Veer serves as medical faculty at SCNM, is known for her motivational style of speaking and lectures extensively on a wide range of health and medical topics. Trained in counseling, she lends her compassionate listening ear to the art and practice of medicine.

Currently, Dr. van der Veer maintains a general medical practice and focuses on working with women and their partners to achieve healthy pregnancies, post-partum experiences, babies and families through the use of Natural therapies.

She employs a wide range of Naturopathic modalities for supporting new life including diet and nutritional counseling, supplements and nutritional medicine, botanical (herbal) medicine, homeopathy and acupuncture (for local clients/patients). She works with women, their partners, family and children from preconception through pregnancy and the postpartum experience, and from infancy through childhood. Preconception detoxification, pregnancy health and nutrition, postpartum recovery, postpartum depression, infant and child health and nutrition, ADD/ADHD and childhood allergies are areas of special expertise.

On a personal level, Kären’s life is characterized by great passion and devotion. She maintains a great love for art, dance, music and sustainable ecology and is wildly in love with her two children, Aevan and Liliana.

Time:  7:00 pm

Place:  Flagstaff Healing Arts, LLC

119 S. Paseo Del Flag

Flagstaff, AZ 86001

Dr. Kymberlee Wilkens is a 2002 Summa Cum Laude Palmer Graduate.  She is the mom of Kyler (6) and Kyra (3) both of whom were born peacefully in their home in Flagstaff.  Having children immersed Dr. Wilkens in a wonderful community of young families where she has had the blessing of offering the benefits of chiropractic care to pregnant women and their children for the last six years.  She is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association and a certified Webster Technique provider.

The Webster Technique is a specific pelvic analysis and balancing protocol which reduces pelvic torsion thereby eliminating torquing of the uterus which allows babies to obtain optimal positioning in utero.  Dr. Wilkens feels especially passionate about informed choice and ensuring all pregnant mothers have access to a thorough source of information regarding the risks and benefits of all the healthcare choices available to her and her family.  She believes all babies should be given the best chance for entering the world peacefully.
